EXEGESIS

I chose Wix for my web presence because it was the most customisable platform available to me and was the best option for what I wanted to do. I wanted to create a website much along the lines of a blog that also includes recipes. If I had the time and resources I would have liked to have done more recipes and blog posts with a wider range of content. I chose Facebook because it is the most used and well-known platform for sharing content from external sources. I also chose Twitter because it is a quick way of sharing links and small captions of larger pieces of work, it is also a popular platform for collaborating with other people as you can “Tweet” at people and send them direct messages. Lastly I chose Instagram to share my photos of the food I cook and it is also a very pen forum for other users with the same interests to communicate and share their content.

A blog is a shortened form of a weblog, my blog posts are quite short in length as in todays modern world, there are few people that want to sit and read a blog that’s a couple pages long, it could be classed as a personal microblog, although not quite as short as Twitter most posts will only range between 1-3 paragraphs. Each blog post has a comments section at the bottom for users to add their own comments and photos of food they cook related to the recipe discussed in the blog for example, on the post about YIAH people can add their own uses for the products sold by the company. Or with the Gozleme people can add their own filling variations and interact with other people who are enthusiastic about cooking.

I chose the Vegetarian Restaurant template on Wix because the colour scheme and layout was aesthetically pleasing and the layout worked well for what I wanted to create, the layout of the photos were optimised for presentation of food and simple, usable blog writing and viewing. I chose a neutral colour for the overall theme of the website for a calm and modern look that wasn’t too garish and tacky.

I also chose to include the Mothers Day short blog post as my home page because it is the most recent event to write about and introduces a nice set of images with good food and images to give a general idea of what the website is about, one of the main pages in the website is the recipes, which shows the type of food that will be featured in the website, the recipes also include where the original recipe is from if needed such as the Cadbury cookies which includes a link to the website where the original recipe is. I feel that if I had a couple of months to work on this and not have any other distractions I would have experimented with my own recipes and added more blog posts about variations of recipes and more events such as ANZAC Day and birthdays.

The website has been created for people to share their own recipe ideas and variations on things that I create which allows people to discover new flavour combinations and ideas. If I were to continue the blog I would create more sub-sections for different meal types and be more actively interactive with other people and try more foods. I think if I could do the site again, I would make all of the pages more interactive for users to submit their own recipes for others to try .
